Opportunities and Challenges Facing China's Stainless Steel Industry
Development status of steel and stainless steel industry in China
As one of the most competitive industries in the world, China's iron and steel industry leads the world's iron and steel development in the following four aspects: first, scale leads. China has been the world's largest steel producer for 26 years; Second, equipment is leading. China's steel industry has the world's leading large-scale process equipment, new processes and new technologies; Third, the Chinese steel industry is undergoing the largest ultra-low emission transformation in the world; Fourth, science and technology lead. China's iron and steel industry provides rich application scenarios for intelligent manufacturing.
The development of China's iron and steel industry can generally be divided into two stages: quantity and high quality, and five stages: growth, reduction, accelerated restructuring, strengthening environmental protection, and low-carbon development. At present, China's iron and steel industry has been in the historical stage of the superposition of three phases of volume reduction, accelerated restructuring, and enhanced environmental protection, and is evolving to a stage of high quality and low carbon.
Focusing on the development status quo of China's stainless steel industry, it mainly presents six characteristics: first, China's stainless steel production is growing rapidly and currently ranks first in the world; Second, the consumption of stainless steel in China continues to grow. The consumption of stainless steel in Chinese Mainland is unevenly distributed, mainly in the coastal areas; Third, China's stainless steel imports and exports have maintained an overall growth trend; Fourth, China's stainless steel production capacity is relatively concentrated, mainly distributed in East China and Central South China; Fifth, China's stainless steel industry is highly concentrated; Sixth, China's stainless steel product structure is still dominated by 200 series and 300 series, and the proportion of 400 series needs to be improved.
Opportunities and Challenges for the Development of China's Stainless Steel Industry
At present, China's stainless steel industry ushers in new development opportunities. On the one hand, China's stainless steel consumption will maintain rapid growth and the consumption structure will continue to be optimized. Under the urgent requirement of the country to vigorously develop low-carbon economy, stainless steel will partially replace other materials in the traditional field due to its low carbon emissions in the whole life cycle. On the other hand, with consumption upgrading, green and low-carbon development and new infrastructure construction, the transformation and development of downstream industries, especially traditional manufacturing, will bring broad development space for China's stainless steel industry.
Challenges and opportunities coexist. At this stage, China's stainless steel industry still needs to cope with a series of challenges, mainly including: serious shortage of nickel, chromium and other stainless steel raw material resources; The stainless steel scrap is in short supply and its utilization rate is relatively low; The industrial competition is further intensified, and the survival of enterprises without outstanding product features and imperfect downstream industrial chain construction will face great challenges.
